No Cooling Water Needed? PLAN 53B Air-Cooled for High-Risk Pumps & Compressors

PLAN 53B (Air-Cooled Type) is a pressurized barrier fluid system for dual mechanical seals.
It is primarily used in fluid handling equipment handling hazardous, high-pressure, or complex process media. Compared to the more basic PLAN 53A, its key advantages lie in the use of a bladder-type accumulator for pressurization and an air-cooled heat exchanger for heat dissipation.

The main benefit of the air-cooled PLAN 53B is that it eliminates dependence on plant cooling water systems, making it particularly suitable for applications where water is scarce, water quality is poor, or environmental regulations are stringent.

The air-cooled PLAN 53B seal support system uses air as the cooling medium to remove heat. Based on how air movement is generated, it can be divided into two types: natural air cooling and forced air cooling. The core difference between these two methods is whether external power (such as a fan) is required and the associated installation environment requirements.

Natural air cooling features a simple structure and is maintenance-free, but its cooling capacity is relatively weak. Forced air cooling, on the other hand, actively delivers air to significantly improve heat transfer efficiency, making it suitable for most industrial field conditions. The final selection should be based on the actual process heat load, installation location, and maintenance expectations.
