When to Use API PLAN53B? High Pressure, Toxic Media & No Nitrogen Supply

1. Hazardous, zero-tolerance leakage media
When handling media that are highly toxic, strongly carcinogenic, extremely hazardous, or flammable/explosive, a solution that ensures zero leakage to the atmosphere must be adopted. PLAN53B maintains a higher barrier fluid pressure than the process medium, ensuring that even if the inboard seal leaks, the barrier fluid leaks into the process medium rather than the medium leaking out.

2. Dirty, corrosive, easily polymerized, or non-lubricating media
If the pumped medium contains solid particles (dirty/abrasive), is highly corrosive, easily polymerizes or cokes, or has very poor lubricity, using the medium itself to lubricate the seal faces will rapidly lead to seal failure. PLAN53B uses a clean barrier fluid to lubricate and cool the seal faces, significantly extending seal life.

3. High-pressure conditions
When the seal chamber pressure is high, exceeding the safe or economical application range of conventional PLAN53A (direct gas pressurization), PLAN53B is recommended. The bladder isolates gas from liquid, avoiding the risk of gas dissolving into the barrier fluid under high pressure, thereby supporting higher working pressures.

4. No stable on-site gas source
PLAN53B is a self-contained system. Unlike PLAN53A, which requires connection to a stable plant nitrogen network, PLAN53B only needs an initial pre-charge of the bladder using a portable gas cylinder. No continuous gas supply is required for subsequent operation. This makes it ideal for remote locations, mobile equipment, or sites with insufficient/unstable nitrogen supply.

5. High-temperature media
For high-temperature conditions, PLAN53B systems are typically equipped with an external cooler (air-cooled or water-cooled). The cooler effectively removes heat generated by seal face rotation and conducted from the pump casing, maintaining the barrier fluid at an appropriate temperature to prevent vaporization or seal damage caused by excessive heat.
